A doctor whom we knew while we were on Guam asked this question of the Navy when he was informed that rather than take a residency in a great hospital, he was going to strap some shoulder boards on his coat and go to Guam. Between 1970 and 1974 he, we (my wife, children and I) and a host of others learned.
For in the summer of 1970 we sold our home in Auburn, California, packed up the money in suitcases, and moved to Guam. Why we went, how long we stayed, what we did there, and why we eventually moved on will be dealt with in loving, exquisitely boring detail.
